The world of fashion offers a variety of careers to choose from. Designing is one major career option with various specializations to choose from.  Fashion design is the applied art dedicated to the design of clothing and lifestyle accessories which generally mirror the cultural and social influences of that time. This includes all designs worn to create a statement about the individual or group of individuals.

Hence, fashion technology is an interesting career option that the youth can opt for. it is also a demanding career, as fashion designers need to combine their creativity with managerial skills to sustain in this industry. Thus, if you can create magic with colors, designs and shapes, just acquire apt professional skills to begin a successful career in Fashion Designing.

Course:

Professional training in fashion helps to develop one's ability and channelise creativity. Almost all the polytechnics (government or private), especially those for women, offer courses in fashion designing or dress designing or costume designing. Many of them may offer accessory design courses. Most of these courses are open to students after completion of the plus two or equivalent level of education. Admission to these courses is usually on the basis of an aptitude test evaluating flair for designing and sketching, sense of perspective in two and three-dimensional space, aesthetic sensitivity and skill in visualization. 

Eligibility:

Minimum eligibility for the Undergraduate course in this field is 10+2 with 50% marks and for Post Graduate courses graduation. In the prominent institutes, admission is strictly on merit- through written test, situation test, group discussion and interview. These courses are aimed at understanding concepts related to costume, jewellery, leather goods and many other similar products where fashion matters.
The courses include Graduate, Post graduate, Certificate and Diploma in the following areas:   

  • Accessory designing and fashion designing
  • Garment Manufacturing Technology
  • Apparel marketing and Merchandising
  • Leather and Garment Design and Technology
  • Knitwear Design and Technology
